Mixmag x Lady Tazz

Lady Tazz’s journey from her roots in Bangladesh to becoming a global techno heavyweight has been marked by bold decisions, cultural defiance and a commitment to creative freedom. Now based between California, Toronto and Europe, the DJ, producer, and Mind Medizin label and event series founder continues to push boundaries with a sound that is hypnotic, sensual and uncompromising.

Her latest release 'Sleaze' captures the erotic, raw spirit that defines both her music and the spaces she curates, and comes on Rekids on 27th June 2025 with a remix from the label boss Radio Slave.

In this interview, Lady Tazz reflects on her boundary-pushing career, her relationship with home, and the philosophies that fuel her work—from uplifting her community to crafting inclusive dance floors that embrace kink, freedom and individuality.

How has 2025 been so far, what has stood out and why?

Where to start! It’s been a crazy year. I’ve been living in California for last 12 months as I am studying to get my pilot license which is pretty insane and whilst doing that, I’m also sneaking in few weekends to DJ and throw our Mind Medizin events in cities like Bogota which always gives me that chance to recharge.

Also, I would say meeting some of my heroes and them being the kindest, warmest, most genuine people and also trusting me with their music (some surprises coming out on MM this year), stood out for me.

What are the biggest challenges you have faced in your career so far and what can the industry do better so other people don't have those same problems?

I am a workaholic, so having a record label, throwing events and flying classes has been challenging; and I’m lucky to have people around me I can trust. You can’t change the industry, but you do have control over how you navigate it. I made a decision early on to try and work only with nice people, I think not losing sight of what’s important to you in the process and this approach works for me.

Do you feel you have been accepted back home in Bangladesh, are people coming around to what you have achieved in the techno scene?

Yes, I think so. I live between 3 continents and travel back and forth all the time but Bangladesh is what feels like home. I was extremely hungry to build something on my own and besides political instability, unpredictability, police raids etc., I had an issue that coming from very traditional, established family, I was under a lot of pressure to take maintain the image and not shame my father. At first it was my little secret but when the word got back to my family, you can imagine how well conversations abut me wanting to be a techno DJ went. I left my fathers business and put on my first MM show it started from there.

Is it important to you to represent your community and show people in Bangladesh that they can follow in your footsteps?

Yes, absolutely. I wouldn’t even say follow in my footsteps necessarily. I think finding your own way and your own values is important. But even more so is being seeing someone that looks like you , has a similar backstory, make their way in the industry. It makes the belief you can succeed more tangible. I have mad respect for the people in Bangladesh who have been slowly building the scene there and every time I am back home I see how much it has progressed. It is not as straightforward as maybe in London, Berlin, Miami but the advantage is that people are really passionate and excited about electronic music events as the scene is relatively new in comparison. Most of my friends in Berlin won’t even consider going out unless they are on the guest list.

Is that why you started the Hermanas series? Tell us how you find artists to release in that series, and have you got any more in the works?

I love having my crew around me when I play, the naughtier the better. I am a very sensual person and not afraid to flaunt it. I just thought why not do something with my ladies and support the talent. Definitely and it such a fun project and look out for more Hermann’s coming soon..

What is the sound and vibe of Mind Medizin. How do you know what music is right to release on the label?

I would say sensual, deep techno. I mostly approach people whose music output I admire. I mentioned before, I only want to work with nice people and luckily for me that has worked very well so far. Perfect example, I got to spend some time recently with Terrence Dixon and his wife whom I both adore. That’s how his upcoming MM EP came about, just genuine human connection.

And the parties are about encouraging people to release their inner kink, right? Why is that the mission? Did you ever find anywhere you could be free when you were first getting into music?

Yes. Maybe not a mission, but definitely encouraged, yes. Dancing to music is one of the oldest forms of self-expression so it only makes sense. It’s connected to my own experience learning to let go of inhibitions and feel free. So, yes, there is always a kink element to MM events, but it is not forced.

Tell us about 'Sleaze', what inspired it, what the aim is, how it fits into your recent discography?

Sleaze is my homage to Berlin sex club scene. A friend introduced me to Kit Kat club on one of my work trips to Europe and opened my mind to culture that at that time, I didn’t even know existed. It changed everything for me.

Dark, sexy, free and little sleazy for the good measure.

How did you hook up with Radio Slave, and what chose him to remix? Has he been an influence or inspiration on you?

I met Matthew about 4/5 years ago in Bogota and we have been friends since.

He has been a huge influence as I really admire what he does. Not just his A&R and production skills, but also his work ethic. I am super excited having him on board for this release.

Finally, what should people expect when you play Vault Sessions x Meatfree x Spectrum at RADION, Amsterdam? What's your aim in the DJ booth? To shock, excite, tease, educate or something else?

Moody, sexy, hypnotic techno. I just hope people lose themselves in music, dance and have a good time.
