Tommy Value announces debut full length EP on Planet Rhythm

Brooklyn-based Tommy Value is to release his debut full-length EP, Gávea Groove, on May 30 via Planet Rhythm. It's a fresh and potent sound that blends hardgroove with rhythms and percussion inspired by Brazilian sounds and reflects Value’s personal interpretation of Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival through a club-ready lens.

The EP has received early support from artists such as JakoJako, Alarico, Dax J, Marcel Fengler, Takaaki Itoh, Ilario Alicante and Pan-Pot and comes on the heels of Value’s fast rise as a DJ and curator with his Beautiful Machines event series and label.

Inspired by his recent travels to Brazil, the title track is named after a well-known tunnel in Rio's Gávea neighborhood. According to Value, the contrast of raw concrete and surrounding jungle mirrors the sonic palette of the track: driving kicks and syncopated synths layered with bright, tropical percussion. Additional tracks on the EP include 'Killer Baseline', a bass-heavy cut with vocal chops and percussive tension, 'Vox Groove,' a more restrained cut with atmospheric textures and drifting vocal fragments, 'Jungle Juice', which plays with jungle field recordings and a playful bassline, and 'Avulsion,' which leans into angular synths, fragmented hi-hats and soulful vocal stabs.

A few days after the release of the EP, Value heads up a Beautiful Machines show on 6 June at Amsterdam's Murmur with Megan Leber and Pomelo. Furterh stops come at Next Door Records Two (London, 8 June), and Giri (Berlin, 11 June) and a hometown set is scheduled at Silence Please in New York on 22 May.
