Richie Hawtin’s PhD scholar PETRU KSS unveils debut album ‘Kolibri Live LP’ mixed by Hannes Bieger
Corsican born producer and live performer PETRU KSS released his debut album ‘Kolibri Live LP’ on March 6 via his own Kolibri Space Shuttle Records.
Recorded live in the wilderness of Corsica, the 11 track LP captures a fully hardware driven performance conceived as a journey from nature into deep space. Driven by spontaneity, the project leans into improvisation and physical interaction, embracing tension, fragility and risk as central compositional tools.
Positioned at the intersection of driving techno and progressive depth, ‘Kolibri Live LP’ moves through hypnotic polyrhythms, acid tinged propulsion and expansive melodic passages. While rooted in dancefloor functionality, the record unfolds with cinematic clarity, balancing dark intensity with moments of lift and spatial openness.
The project has already earned early support from artists including Richie Hawtin, John Digweed, Sasha & more with remixes from Dubfire, .VRIL, Kaiser and others set to expand the project’s universe across 2026.
Mixed by sonic architect Hannes Bieger and mastered at Calyx, the LP balances raw live energy with sculpted sonic depth. Across tracks like ‘Genesis’, ‘Liminal Orbit’ and ‘Pegasus’, PETRU navigates driving sequences, raw energy and luminous melodic ruptures, maintaining a tension between physical intensity and atmospheric spaciousness.
A recipient of the Richie Hawtin PhD Scholarship in Electronic Music, PETRU KSS is known for his research driven approach to live techno performance through his THRiPPS project (Techno, Hardware-centric, Real-time, Improvisation, Production and Performance Study). As PETRU advances his PhD research into live electronic performance, Kolibri Live LP stands as a defining moment, a clear, expressive vision where human intent drives every moment of the journey.
