Pride Hub at The Social Hub Amsterdam City: A Celebration of Diversity and Community

For the fourth year in a row, Amsterdam Pride saw The Social Hub Amsterdam City transform into a vibrant Pride Hub, offering a diverse and inclusive lineup that truly captured the spirit of the event.

Partnering with Pride Amsterdam, this initiative was part of The Social Hub’s ongoing commitment to creating a safe and welcoming space for everyone while making a genuine social impact.

The week was brimming with a dynamic mix of events, ranging from educational sessions to energetic street parties, ensuring there was something for everyone. Here’s a closer look at what went down:

Pride University: A Hub of Knowledge and Inspiration

Pride University kicked off the week, bringing together Amsterdam's leading educational institutions—VU, HvA, Inholland, UvA, and ROC Amsterdam—in a collaborative effort to educate and inspire. The program featured workshops and sessions covering LGBTQIA+ history, activism, mental health, and personal growth. With lectures from prominent community figures like Nanoah Struik, Marie Lotte Hagen, and Nydia van Voorthuizen, attendees left empowered and enriched with new insights.

Debates and Panel Discussions: Tackling Big Topics

Debates and panel discussions provided a platform for deep dives into pressing issues such as asylum seekers and LGBTQIA+ rights. These sessions featured experts, activists, and community members who shared their perspectives, sparking meaningful conversations and broadening understanding among participants.

Workshops on Drag Heroes: A Celebration of Drag Culture

The Pride Hub also celebrated the fabulous world of drag with workshops dedicated to this unique art form. Participants learned about the cultural significance of drag, picked up performance tips, and even got hands-on with drag makeup, making for an engaging and educational experience.

Exploring LGBTQIA+ History and Development

Sessions focused on LGBTQIA+ history offered a deep dive into the community’s rich past, exploring key milestones and ongoing challenges. These sessions were a powerful reminder of the progress made and the work that still lies ahead.

Poetry and Comedy Nights: Showcasing Community Talent

The Pride Hub’s poetry and comedy nights were a true highlight, featuring performances from talented poets and comedians within the LGBTQIA+ community. These evenings offered a perfect blend of humor and reflection, celebrating the voices that make the community so vibrant.

Evening Programs: Street Parties with Unique Flair

The week’s events culminated in a series of epic street parties, each with its own unique theme and vibe:

Wednesday: IsBurning

Kicking off with a bang, IsBurning returned to its original site, bringing a decade of celebrating self-expression and queer freedom back to Wibautstraat. This free outdoor block party was a vibrant mix of live music, BBQ, and exclusive goodies. With a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere during the day, and a high-energy vibe as the evening progressed, it set the perfect tone for the week.

Thursday: Mixmag Sessions - Pride Edition

Thursday night was all about the beats with Mixmag Sessions: Pride Edition. Known for its deep roots in the electronic dance scene, Mixmag brought an electrifying energy to the Pride Hub. Performances by Doppelgang, Fafi Abdul Nur, and Dana Mantana had the crowd dancing the night away, embodying the true spirit of queer culture and music.

Friday: Sweetie Darling Summer Party

The grand finale of the week, the Sweetie Darling Summer Party, was the ultimate queer summer street party in Amsterdam. Disco house beats from D-Jaye & Darling Peter kept the energy high, while the sensational Andrew Sylveste, serving as MC, added to the electrifying atmosphere. Hosted by the fabulous Darlings, the party was a dazzling display of color, joy, and inclusivity—a perfect way to wrap up an unforgettable week.

This year’s Pride Hub was a powerful celebration of diversity, inclusivity, and community. With a wide range of activities that brought people together to learn, celebrate, and support one another, it was a week that truly embodied the spirit of Pride, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who took part.
