With her debut EP on Nervous Records generating significant buzz, Lovefoxy is making a true impact not just with her music but also with her unique blend of style and performance. Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with Lovefoxy to discuss the personal experiences and emotions that influenced her debut EP, her collaboration with Nervous Records, and much more.

THE EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER OF RELEASING MUSIC

Releasing your own piece of music is an emotional rollercoaster that no one can truly prepare you for. Lovefoxy’s journey with her debut EP was no different.

“When working on it, I had an idea of what I wanted to do and the type of punch I wanted it to have, along with the Sluthouse messaging,” she explained.

However translating an energy and vibe that everyone will be able to understand takes time and lots of trying out. I won’t spill what it is for me because it is truly ever evolving”.

Lovefoxy’s approach to wording and themes adds a layer of fun, as she enjoys seeing how people interpret Sluthouse in their own ways.

THE JOURNEY TO NERVOUS RECORDS

Collaborating with Nervous Records is a significant milestone in Lovefoxy’s career. With a deep-seated respect for the label, partly influenced by inheriting a vinyl collection from her mother, including Kerri Chandler’s The Mood EP, Lovefoxy’s connection to Nervous Records is deeply personal. She recounted her journey,

“In January 2023, I played my first Boiler Room in London and opened with Crackazat’s Never Ending Love, a modern house banger that had just been released on Nervous Records. Mike and Andrew reached out to me on Instagram, and three months later I met them at their HQ in NYC. I’ll be forever grateful for the trust and friendship that blossomed out of this.”

Lovefoxy’s debut EP, Burning Down The Sluthouse, is a celebration of her unique perspective on house music.

“It is my debut EP and first ever production to see the light of the day. Burning Down The Sluthouse is a celebration of eventually me and how I see myself and what music I’d like people to enjoy again- hard hitting house vibes. It is a bit of an homage to the old house days and the messaging of Chicago/Detroit Ghettohouse,” she said.

This EP represents not just her sound but her growth as an artist. Drawing inspiration from various sub-genres like Jersey Club and artists like DJ Tameil, Lovefoxy is constantly evolving.

“I can’t wait to create and release more as I grow,” she added.

Perfectionism can be both a driving force and a hindrance for many artists. Lovefoxy vividly described reaching a point where she couldn’t discern whether her music was good anymore, or if her perfectionist tendencies were obstructing her progress.

“I hit a point where I just couldn’t tell anymore if it is good, if my perfectionism is in the way or what I am even trying to achieve,” she revealed.

This kind of self-doubt is a familiar challenge for many creatives, where the initial excitement gives way to uncertainty and self-criticism.

In facing these challenges, Lovefoxy discovered the importance of giving her creativity some rest.

“For me, the golden rule was to give your creativity some rest, leave the piece in question and start on something new or take a rest for a couple of days completely,” she advised.

This approach allowed her to step back, gain perspective, and return to her work with a fresh mindset. This period of rest proved to be a crucial part of her creative process, helping her overcome the blocks caused by perfectionism.

One of the key lessons Lovefoxy learned during her EP production was the value of not rushing the creative process.

“There shouldn’t be a rush in creating, and if you have the luxury of waiting—do so. It only got better after, and to realize that was a rewarding breakthrough professionally and personally,” she explained.

Recognizing the need for rest and patience marked a significant breakthrough for Lovefoxy, both professionally and personally. This insight not only improved the quality of her work but also contributed to her overall well-being. The ability to step back and approach her work with renewed energy and clarity became a crucial part of her creative process.

Lovefoxy’s journey as an artist extends beyond her music to her distinctive fashion sense. She explained how her style reflects her personality and artistic identity.

"I don’t give it that much thought to be completely honest. I have always been quite outgoing (also fashion-wise) and am having fun with it . In a way I am also trying to celebrate that I am able to dress a certain way in the time and place I was born in"

Her fashion choices are a celebration of her individuality and the era she lives in, allowing her to blend her personal and artistic identities seamlessly

While her fashion sense is fluid and evolving, Lovefoxy maintains that it protects her personal identity while giving her artistic identity room to grow

“LF is a heightened, more performative version of Fania. It’s quite cool that I can bring the two together style-wise and separate them emotionally like that.”

Performing live is another vibrant aspect of Lovefoxy’s career. She admitted that preparation varies greatly due to the unique nature of each gig.

“As much as I wish I could prepare, I can’t really because every gig and setting is different,” she explained.

“Touring is a whole discipline itself. Trying to get your sleep in and eat okay is constantly challenged and so hard to maintain, so you’ll need to find a healthy balance,” she said.

Having a routine, whether it’s sports or guilt-free relaxation, is essential for her well-being.

Making trips, creating memories, and taking deserved time off are essential for maintaining connections with loved ones.

Lovefoxy’s journey with her debut EP on Nervous Records shows her unique approach to music. Her ability to draw inspiration from various sources, coupled with her dedication to personal and artistic growth, makes her a standout artist in the house music scene. As she continues to evolve, there’s no doubt that she will keep pushing boundaries and creating music that resonates deeply with her audience.
