“For me, HEX and its TechnoMetal movement are like a baby, something that I raised with a lot of passion and love,” he shares.

“I always wanted to play the guitar,” he explains, “and then I started learning it to give my passion for metal and techno a form of expression. But in the end, being on stage as a DJ rock star was the best way for me to live out my creative freedom.”

The movement’s success has been extraordinary. HEX’s Boiler Room performance went viral, catapulting Lorenzo and his collective to global recognition. Hosting their own floors at prestigious events like Tomorrowland and Nature One further cemented their influence.

“The fact that we then hosted our own floor at Nature One and Tomorrowland was just so surreal and awesome that I can truly say we achieved something great,” he reflects.

Yet, despite these milestones, Lorenzo’s journey with HEX wasn’t without challenges.

Along with the growing success of HEX and our B2B, there was a lot of pressure, I was under too much pressure. Where and how do I have to be positioned to get good social media content, and how do Paolo and I have to interact. It became more and more about the HEX brand and less and less about me as an artist and I lost more and more of the joy of DJing. The brand was on the verge of literally crushing me.

A Pivotal decision: to step away from HEX and focus on his individual artistry.

Paolo and I were drifting further and further apart creatively, so both of our developments coincided that we wanted to develop independently. I want to have the full joy of being behind the decks again and not think about the next post. That's why I decided to stop HEX and the B2Bs for the time being. There will still be selected events, like a USA tour and confirmed events we will also play but not accept new ones. Never forget It's only Rock'n'Roll (but I like it).

The decision to leave HEX was not an easy one.

“It was a very difficult and emotional decision,” Lorenzo admits.

HEX had been his passion project for a decade, demanding sacrifices in his personal life and other interests. Now, he’s ready to channel his energy into rediscovering the joy of performing and creating music.

Lorenzo’s focus has shifted to refining his sound and reconnecting with the raw energy that defines his music.

“I’ve picked a game plan with my management,” he explains, “ I’m going to redefine my techno sound, but I promise one thing: it will stay Nine Inch Nails hard and like there’s no tomorrow.”

He also expresses excitement about the new opportunities this chapter brings. “There’s a lot of new music coming,” he shares, “ I’m taking things as they come. This time, it’s all about enjoying the process and delivering music that feels right to me.”

In the studio, Lorenzo is embracing a fresh approach.

“I’m working on a lot of new tracks at the moment,” he reveals, noting his eagerness to collaborate with other labels outside of HEX.

This move marks a significant shift, allowing him to explore new creative opportunities and broaden his reach.

“There are so many other great hard techno labels that we've never been on. I’m already in talks with a few of them and some of them will release my new tracks, so stay tuned, I'm also thinking about 1-2 collaborations and just want to really shift up gears in the studio. Here, too, the focus should be on having fun”

Lorenzo’s recent successes, featuring Sweet Dreams and Born Slippy, have set a high standard, but he’s determined to surpass it.

“I’m also thinking about one or two collaborations and just want to really shift up gears in the studio,” he says.

“Through our brand HEX, all our tracks were only ever on our label, and that was something that bothered me. There are so many other great hard techno labels that we’ve never been on so I’m excited to change that.”

“Working with others has always been a way for me to challenge my creativity. Each collaboration brings something fresh to the table, and I’m excited to see where that takes my sound next.”

The demands of a high-profile DJ lifestyle can be overwhelming, and Lorenzo is candid about the toll it’s taken.

“The last few years have been tough for me,” he admits. To cope, he’s embraced the practice of disconnecting entirely.

“I just had to get out. Two to three weeks completely off the grid—that helps me the most.”

Currently, Lorenzo finds solace in Zanzibar, where he’s surrounded by family, close friends, and the tranquility he craves.

“Here I can let myself go, let my thoughts run free and reset my brain. That's all I actually need. But then I don't want to hear or know anything about the business either and as I’m pretty good in organising I earned this luxury to be really offline without causing any damage”, he says.

This retreat not only provides clarity but also fuels his creativity, allowing him to return to the industry with renewed energy.

Lorenzo also emphasizes the importance of mindfulness.

“I think everyone in this industry needs to find their own way to recharge. For me, it’s nature and family. For others, it might be something else entirely. But without that balance, you can lose yourself.”

“I think it's no secret that the techno scene has become very diversified. Hard techno had extreme momentum and took the world by storm”.

“The sound got harder and harder and of course I like that. I'm quite critical of some developments, but ultimately it's always about creativity, and it doesn't matter whether you like something or not”.

“As long as it makes people happy, I think it's totally fine. I've now found my sound again and I'm looking forward to blasting it into your ears. I missed some of that last year. I need it raw and hard, it has to push forward and send people into ecstasy”. he states.
