Focus On: Metamorfosi with Joseph Capriati

Italian esteemed artist Joseph Capriati has just had another superb five week residency at the iconic Ibiza club Amnesia which he says is "one of the few places I can call home in the whole world really." It is a repeat of last summer's debut but this year he took it to all new heights. All five of the Metamorfosi events - which are named after his superb and eclectic artist album - have looked incredible with unique and detailed production that has been truly off the charts.

''This year's residency has been a real dream come true," says the Italian himself. "Seeing my vision of Amnesia clubbing come to life in terms of music production, graphics... made me a really happy man. It's definitely not an easy thing to do a residency in Amnesia and definitely something that we really worked hard at."

Capriati explains that the preparation for the events took a long time, "at least 6 months" to work on the production, the line-ups, and everything else. "In the end I have to say it was better than any expectation. I really have to thank my team, the production teams, and of course Amnesia’s team for making it happen."

Over the seasons he has played many standout sets himself, as well as playing a special warm up set one night that allowed fans a peek into his deeper, less intense sounds. "Metamorfosi represented perfectly the vision of what Amnesia is for me: two rooms, two styles of music, two ambiences... that at the end became one."

On The Terrace was a more house, groovy and melodic sound while in The Club Room it was all about techno. Guests have included the likes of epic sets from Paul Kalkbrenner, Vintage Culture, Sven Väth, Jaden Thompson, Mason Maynard, Dax J, Indira Paganotto, Luigi Madonna, Charlotte de Witte, Agents of Time and many more.

When we ask for some highlights, Joseph says every single one was special. He did a fine job of curating a great mix of artists from new school stars to legendary pioneers, from red hot techno to more emotive house. He chose artists he "loves" and "respects" and this means the quality of the music was top notch. "I truly personally enjoyed every single event."

Joseph does admit the first two events were a bit more stressful for him as it was still one of the first times he has also worked as a promoter. "Being a super detailed-person, you want to have an eye on everything and make sure all’s running as best as possible. Even while I was playing, I was always looking at and checking the sound system, the lights, the production in general, the dancers, etc, but as everything’s been absolutely on spot and rolling, I definitely relaxed and enjoyed much more the last 3 events. It all became more natural."

He finally picks out some top moments such as Paul Kalkbrenner’s first ever live performance on the Terrace of Amnesia. "His set was really emotional. Paul is one of a kind, he can really give you some serious goosebumps. Some of the records he played are a big part of my life and it was definitely an honour to have him with us." A second highlight was his own back to back with ANOTR and Seth Troxler at the closing party. "I must say I thought this one was going to be good, but I would have never imagined it was gonna be THAT amazing. We played 5h, closing down The Terrace, the night and the residency really. We were looking at each other and at the crowd going mad, record by record... Our connection, the vibe, it was all incredible."

Now looking ahead, Joseph says he can see himself and his team bringing Metamorfosi and their vision to Ibiza and Amnesia for as long as possible. That said he will stop short of doing a full season. 'I actually believe one of the keys of our success is right the fact that we are not doing the whole summer but just a limited number of shows, focusing all our efforts in delivering the best music, the best acts, the best production and the best experience possible there."

So far that has proven true. Metamorfosi was one of the summer's best parties in Ibiza and now there will be many more events outside of the island again this winter. "We are still working on this and I cannot unveil many details as of yet. Just be sure that, as per Ibiza, we won’t just be doing events to make events, we want to - and we will - bring and deliver the full Metamorfosi experience wherever we go."
