Fatboy Slim’s Infectiously Catchy New Single ‘Role Model’ Marks 500 Big Ones For SFR

Whilst Fatboy Slim defines what it means to be a household name, his Southern Fried Records imprint has co-existed somewhat under the radar in comparison, yet few labels have stood the test of time quite like them. Founded by Norman Cook and Garry Blackburn in 1994 as an outlet to release tracks under Norman’s Might Dub Katz alias, the label’s first ever release was ‘Super Disco Brakes Vol, followed by early releases from Space Cowboy, Kurtis Mantronix and Scanty Sandwich, before achieving huge success with Ashley Beedle’s remix for Elton John’s ‘Are You Ready For Love’ which was a No.1 record, and Armand Van Helden’s’ My My My’ and ‘I Want Your Soul’.

Fast forward 499 releases later, SFR’s gargantuan 500th single ‘Role Model’ welcomes back the label head himself, and a first original piece of music from Fatboy Slim this year. Landing on the 17th May, ‘Role Model’ will be available both in digital and physical formats, with a limited run of 500 special edition acid-print vinyl for true fans and vinyl aficionados. It’s bass booms almost cartoon-like to leave shards of electro motifs shattering aside ringing cowbells and punchy synth-pads. The melody is pacy and revolves around a rotating, wobbling undertone with an ironic vocal that interjects X-rated pastimes that are anything but rolemodel worthy.

Southern Fried Records has served as a springboard platform for artists over the years including Maribou State, Crookers, Eats Everything and The Black Ghosts. Championing new talent is an ethos Norman has been keen to develop, with the three new label acts to include Meg Ward, Van Damn and Sam Girling. With a new logo, new merchandise and SFR branded parties to hit some of the most important of UK Festivals, as well as conferences including IMS, where they will host a special party with Fatboy Slim, La La and Hayley Zalassi, with Norman playing the pre-party in the garden at Akasha under his Mighty Dub Katz alias, a party that's not to be missed!

‘Role Model’ will be available digitally as well as a limited run of 500 acid yellow vinyls from the 17th May 2024 via his label Southern Fried Records.
