Review: Echoes from Agartha 2023
Echoes from Agartha is a stunning, once in a lifetime trip. A historic cultural event that takes you to an Unesco World Heritage site in Cappadocia in Anatolia, Turkey. It's known as the Cradle of Civilization and is a mountainous region formed 60 million years ago. In late July, it becomes your playground as you party and several stunning coalitions, soak up all manner of rich customs and cultures and make friends with like-minded people from all over the world.
The opening party is at Yunak Evleri and is an opening buffet with a transcendental vibe - pure magic and a very emotional moment where everyone left the worries of real life behind. The vibes on the first night were on point and everyone was ready to kick off the next day.
Arriving at Zion we saw a packed crowd that was raring to go. And that crowd is a special one - people from all over the world who want to make new friends, come together over music and soak up the unreal culture of the spice they are in. They also dress up for the occasion, with plenty of Turkish garms, capes and hats making a colourful crowd that is something like a European answer to Burning Man.
Ezgi, a female Turkish DJ, and Borak, who mixes up electronic sounds and guitars, both soundtracked it to perfection. As the sun was slowly setting and turning the caves of Cappadocia into a real spectacle, the long awaited Keinemusik crew came on the decks delivering absolute mega tunes. From edits to originals, just class A. After the sun had set, Dixon is in fine form and Guy J did not slow down later on and kept the fully immersed crowd going.
Some of the tunes that stand out are Junior papa - Take it or leave it, Aera - Future Holds, Tripolism, Nandu & Radeckt - Dope Dance and Echonomist - Secret Places (club Version) amongst many more highlights across the few days of tasteful sounds.
After three days of one outstanding event after another, everyone could not wait for the actual main event in IO - it was a different venue than last year with string stage designs featuring two massive guards next to the UFO style DJ booth and spectacular light shows. Things kick off with Chingir Cinar, then Zoe Dona is on the decks for the spine tingling sunset and soundtracks it perfectly with a powerful and beautiful set
Next in line and successfully testing the system was Economist - delivering a powerful set with electronic grooves and getting the party in full swing. But Blond:ish really take the gong for the best set with a seamless blend of classics, future hits and edits from the underground spectrum. She created an insane experience that literally everyone could identify with and people were dancing in caves and on multiple stages.
In between drops from another dimension the crowd constantly was surprised with dance performances from fire dancers, magicians to colourful fan swingers and next on the decks was Bedouin, kicking off with a magical heavenly vocal and then a rich and mystical journey until sunrise. People gathered in groups, hugged, kissed and started to realise they just had the best days of their lives before they head to Yunak Evleri for an epic afterparty. Everyone is dancing, smiling and loving. The vibes were incomparable with Blond:ish again in top form on the decks. While the heat started to burn down, the pool and the cool caves filled up turning the whole hill into a party paradise.
Echoes from Agartha is a dream you don't want to end. It is not just about the music and the setting, but the extras - you can visit the underground city, do pottery, take a horse safari and even head up in hot air balloons to enjoy the panorama show of the unbelievable beauty of Cappadocia. It is all well organised and a viral festival that is all over social media such it's the gorgeous visual appeal of it all. Do not miss out on your chance to be part of it next year.
