Dhuna
A beautiful journey between house and techno
At the intersection of diverse cultures and sounds, Dhuna has found her place in the vibrant world of electronic music. Her journey has been marked by experiences in cities like Barcelona, Auckland, Ibiza, and New York, each leaving a mark on her artistic identity. For her, there is no defining moment that determined her path to music.
From the beginning, Dhuna has been guided by an insatiable curiosity. With a job she loved, she never considered the idea of professionalizing her music; her
interest manifested in hours of musical exploration,
tutorials, and masterclasses from her idols.
“If I had known back then where I would be DJing years
later and with whom I would share the stage, I would
have been amazed,” she says, expressing her astonishment at the journey she has taken. Her experiences in
other countries have been fuxndamental to her growth.
“Visiting other places, getting to know cultures and ways of thinking forces you to be a little more open-minded,” she comments.
This approach has shaped her understanding not only of music but of life itself. By stepping out of her comfort zone, she has learned to appreciate different sounds and moments, discovering that her identity is not limited to a single genre.
“I don’t identify with just one style; I have opened my mind to sub-genres that I previously knew but didn’t consider playing, like the more melodic sound”.
Dhuna’s versatility is evident in her ability to move gracefully between house and techno.
“For me, house is synonymous with elegance, class, and good vibes... With techno, I am enveloped by its intensity and the way it captivates and hypnotizes me. These are two genres that, no matter how separate they may be, belong to the same family, and I identify with both, whether playing them separately or in the same performance. I always compare a set to a journey; it has an origin and a destination”.
For her, a set is a journey; it starts with an assessment of the environment and the energy of the crowd, and she adapts her musical route according to the sensations the dance floor suggests.
“There are many ways to do it—you can go along the coast, through the center, stopping by little towns. When I start my set, I analyze the event, the type of club it is, the audience’s behavior, and based on that, I adapt my musical route, developing my session according to the sensations that the dance floor suggests to me.”
For Dhuna, this versatility has become her defining characteristic, allowing her to navigate various genres while keeping her audience engaged and connected. But where does this remarkable ability stem from? The answer lies in her journey, one that intertwines personal growth with professional evolution.
Dhuna’s versatility began to flourish when she seized the opportunity to become a resident DJ for Rebels Fest.
“As I grew alongside the brand, I realized that we didn’t confine ourselves to just one genre,” she explains.
This pivotal moment allowed her to explore a broad spectrum of sounds, transitioning seamlessly from headliners rooted in pure techno to those immersed in tech house. This exposure not only broadened her musical repertoire but also compelled her to adapt her approach based on the unique atmosphere of each event.
“Everything forced me to prepare and expand my musical range,” Dhuna reflects
This preparation was not merely about learning tracks; it was about understanding her role within the musical narrative of the night. Whether she was opening the event, providing a warm-up, or closing the show, Dhuna learned to read the room and adjust her set accordingly.
“I was always mindful of my role—who I am handing over the booth to, and how to create a cohesive experience for the audience,” she adds.
This experience forced her to expand her repertoire and adapt to different situations, always aware of her role in each event. Sharing the stage with renowned artists like Charlotte de Witte, James Hype, Armin Van Buuren and Richie Hawtin has been both a challenge and a learning opportunity.
“The first times you share the stage with such important artists, nerves are inevitable,” she admits.
However, Dhuna learned to balance preparation with managing her emotions, recognizing that enjoying the moment is essential. Today, her international recognition grows with performances at events like Miami Music Week and the Amsterdam Dance Event.
“For me, leaving home and being part of these events is synonymous with recognition and that I’m doing things right,” she says.
Her preparation is based on a balance between daily routine and dedication to her art, ensuring that each performance aligns with her vision. Looking to the future, Dhuna does not feel pressured to reach a specific destination.
“There isn’t a specific place I want to get to; as long as my love for music and what I do lasts, the relationship will endure,” she reflects with a perspective of humility and openness.
This philosophy allows her to explore new influences
without closing herself off to other genres that may
arise along her path.
Finally, although she does not consider herself at a point of leaving a legacy, Dhuna finds satisfaction in the impact her music has on people.
“There’s no greater satisfaction than seeing people come to listen to me in different places and sending me messages of thanks,” she concludes.
For her, the true legacy lies in the love and enjoyment of music, something she hopes to convey in every set she offers.
Dhuna’s story is an inspiring testament to how passion and curiosity can transform a hobby into a meaningful career. From her early steps in electronic music to her rise on the international scene, her journey has been marked by a genuine desire to connect with people through her sets.
Each city she has visited and each experience lived has contributed to shaping her musical identity, making it richer and more diverse. It is clear that her love for music goes beyond simply mixing genres; it is a constant search for connection, authenticity, and personal growth.
Through her versatility, Dhuna not only shines on stage but also demonstrates a profound understanding of the human experience. For her, each performance is an opportunity to tell a story, a narrative that resonates with the audience and invites them to embark on a sonic journey.
Her ability to adapt and read the energy of the crowd reflects her dedication and innate talent, turning each set into a memorable moment. At the end of the day, what truly matters to Dhuna is seeing people enjoy and feel the music in the same way she does.
Looking to the future, Dhuna remains open to new influences and possibilities, trusting that her love for music will guide her evolution as an artist.
Her story reminds us that the path to success is not always linear and that true satisfaction comes from staying true to oneself. With her genuine passion and commitment to creating meaningful experiences, Dhuna will undoubtedly leave a lasting mark on electronic music and in the hearts of those privileged enough to hear her.
