Chinese-American artist HELANG serves up her potent new Flashback EP on HE.SHE.THEY. Records

HELANG's rise continues at pace with the release of her new and powerful Flashback EP on HE.SHE.THEY. Records on 6 March.

Chinese-American innovator HELANG has turned plenty of heads of late with big performances at E1 in London and Teksupport NYE. She also got plenty of acclaim for her Life Is Music EP and takes another big step up with this latest release on HE.SHE.THEY. Records.

She heads up her own Dauntless Records and is known for her distinctive approach to dance music and strong commitment to her craft. Drawing from her cultural heritage, she integrates personal influences into her work while pushing creative boundaries.

Says HELANG, "Ever since I was a kid I've found it difficult to follow rules, be micromanaged, conform to trends- the list goes on. Most of the time when writing music all I can do is think about how to channel that energy into my craft. Personally, I just want my music to convey this message to my audience: it's ok to live your life on your own terms, and not how society tells you to. When playing around with the sound designs in this particular EP, I've found a great balance between euphoria and melancholy which is demonstrated in the vocals and synths. To me this is the beauty of music- to feel the feels: the good and the bad. It all goes back around to just expressing oneself in the most genuine and authentic way."

The title track sets the tone with its rhythmic energy and hypnotic textures, 'The Artist in Me' follows with an acid-infused sound and the EP concludes with 'On My Own' which collides house and techno into an emotionally charged and raw dance floor workout.
