When the world went still, Jovynn turned curiosity into connection. What started as a small idea became something much bigger than expected.

“Not really, I got my hands on my first DDJ 400 and was just experimenting with it and thought of a cool idea on TikTok for creators to use,” she remembers. “Wasn’t expecting much of it as it wasn’t my usual niche back then, but the first video got a crazy amount of views. I just kept posting more and more mashups, and trends started from them, so it eventually became my niche.”

While many chase trends, Jovynn builds from emotion. Her approach to creating content isn’t calculated; it’s instinctive.

“It’s all together, my tracks are all made based on what I feel at the moment,” she says. “I’ve made loads of tracks that are still in my drafts, covering different emotions: love, rage, alternative techno, and I usually just start a project based on what I’m feeling or the vocals I have found that fit it, and then make beats from there.”

The leap from TikTok edits to original releases wasn’t immediate. It required patience, consistency, and the courage to shift her audience toward the music she truly loves.

“It took me a while to get my audience used to the genre that I really liked,” she explains. “The more I kept posting my own tracks, the more I attracted the crowd in the same community as I am. It’s definitely more challenging to market a techno song than a TikTok viral hit, but I post videos of my shows consistently and try to align them with current trends in the electronic scene. That way, I get to build my own community.”

Behind every viral clip is an emotional story. For Jovynn, the moment a song connects is rarely about numbers; it’s about resonance.

“A hook in the lyrics, or a very catchy melody synth,” she says when asked about her creative formula. “The Voices in My Head remix I made eventually turned into a trend, and every DJ made their own version of it, which was nice to see. Still, for my version, I was going through a downfall and tried to replicate the noise that was going on in my head, and people resonated with it.”

She pauses before adding one final reflection. “I was contemplating putting out that remix and had made different versions, but this one felt more like what I was going through at the moment, and thank god I’ve let it out of my drafts.”

What sets Jovynn apart is how personal her digital world feels. She’s not chasing validation; she’s building connection.

“By showing them appreciation,” she says. “I watch almost every single video of people dancing to my songs and repost them on my other social platforms. I love seeing people start trends or just having fun with my tracks.”

That simple act of engagement has turned followers into collaborators and listeners into a community.

From Kuala Lumpur to festival stages across Europe, Jovynn is part of a new wave of Asian DJs reshaping the narrative in global electronic music. For her, the journey has been both personal and collective.

“It’s my first experience in the music industry, and I do not come from a music background, never went to music school, and only had knowledge of guitars and piano when I was younger,” she explains. “With the technology and DAWs we have today, it’s much easier to understand music production, and I’m happy I took lessons in both DJ-ing and Music Production to improve my skills.”

It’s been a slow burn, but one rooted in purpose. “It took quite a long time, five years, but it’s so worth it, as I feel more rewarded every time I finish a project or a show. It takes a lot of patience; there are plenty of ups and downs, but I always keep my head high and try to make my country proud.”

As someone who found her audience online, Jovynn knows the pull of constant content. But over time, she’s learned to balance creativity with authenticity.

“Back then, I used to feel pressure to feed the algorithm,” she admits. “But now I just post whatever I want and join in trends that I find funny. My goal is to build a community worldwide, not just be someone on the algorithm to please people. I am posting what’s true to myself and what I like.”

At the end of the day, Jovynn’s vision has little to do with charts or trends. Her focus is always on emotion, the feeling that connects artist and audience, whether through a screen or a sound system.

“My songs are all quite different,” she says softly. “I have made some emotional ones that I haven’t put out, so I would want people to feel what I feel when I am making those tracks. I always have tracks with more vocals so people can sing along live.”

For Jovynn, every set is an emotional dialogue. “At the end of the day, every set is a journey, and with each set I perform, I want people to feel a rollercoaster of emotions through the tracklists I make.”

Jovynn represents a shift that’s redefining how artists break through. She’s proof that emotion can travel through any medium, a 30-second clip, a festival stage, or a late-night playlist.
