Hi Jarreau, we would love to hear all about your musical background. How did you first become interested in DJing and producing music, and what inspired you to pursue it as a career?

As a young kid I grew up in church where I learned to play drums in a band formation, when I got a little older I got into music production, via a program that my grandfather (also a music producer) had introduced me to. When I was 19 years old I started this Dj workshop because I was interested in learning to play records as an extension of doing music production which I was already doing for a few years.

Which artists influenced you the most growing up?

That's too many to mention, but I was and still am a big fan of Brazilian jazz/funk band "azymuth". Their blend of samba with jazz and funk blew my mind. Of course I listened to a lot of hip hop like A tribe called quest, Notorious B.I.G. , Kanye, Lil Wayne and other stuff like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Jamiroquai etc.

How often do you listen to music in your personal life? And what do you listen to?

I realize I actually don't listen to music as a consumer enough. That's probably because I'm digging for music with the purpose of DJ'ing and because I am producing all the time. I actively have to push myself to listen to music sometimes, which I really enjoy!

Your tour calendar is getting busier every year. What has been your favorite place to perform so far and why?

I recently Played in New York City for the first time and I really enjoyed it, very good mixed and receptive crowd. Other than that My favorite cities to DJ at the moment are Sydney, Melbourne, Tokyo and Amsterdam.

How did you develop your style and how would you describe it yourself?

My style comes from experimenting with genres and fusing them adding the elements of which I think are the best ones from the genre together creating something unique. I'd say it's alternative electronic R&B mixed with sounds from the African diaspora.

What kind of releases can we expect from you later in the year?

I'm currently working on an album that I'm really excited about, so be on the lookout for that!

As a producer, where do you start, what is your creative process when you are about to develop a new idea?

I often start from a melodic idea, sometimes recorded as a memo on my phone. It can also a sound or pattern I like that makes me feel something in any way. After that I try to lock it in with drums and add bass or the other way around.

Who are some new talented names on the scene from your perspective? Who do you fully support on their journey as DJ’s and producers?

Bambii, a good friend of mine. Not a new name but she has been killing it as of lately with her singles and productions for Kelela.

To wrap it up what is up next for you? What can we expect from you and anything special we should keep an eye out for?

Simultaneously to My album I'm working on a live show which I'm going to do with my brother Mondesir. I will do a lot of shows this summer and this fall I'm returning to the USA!
